About Us

Timberland’s story began all the way back in 1918 in a small Boston, Massachusetts shoe company, The Abington Shoe Company, where it’s founder, Nathan Swartz, started his bootmaking career as an apprentice stitcher. He cut leather, stitched seams, attached soles and learned how to craft fine leather goods with his own hands.

Timberland Women’s 14″ Premium In 1955, he bought the interest in the company and welcomed his sons to join him and for nearly ten years, the Swartz family made shoes for leading manufacturers together. Early in the 1960’s, they introduced one of the first waterproof leather boots using the so-called injection-molding technology wherein the soles are fused to leather uppers without stitching, a first in the footwear industry during that time.
